Valkyries

The Valkyries are beautiful warriors and goddesses of destiny who serve the god Odin and the goddess Freya. They appear in the form of wolves, crows, hawks, swans, or females.

According to mythology, they transmit Odin’s messages while riding on winged horses (pegasus).

They are thought to create aurora borealis.

The most famous valkyries are Lagertha and Brunhilda. For disobedience to Odin, Brunhilda is punished to fall into a deep sleep in a castle surrounded by the fire until she is awakened by a hero who will save her. From this myth came the story of Sleeping Beauty.
